ACSI Commends Teacher for Heroism
Colorado Springs, Colo.—April 22, 2013—An Ohio teacher will undergo surgery tomorrow so she can donate her kidney to a young student. Wendy Killian, a fourth-grade teacher at Mansfield Christian School (Mansfield, Ohio), recently volunteered to be an organ donor for first grader Nicole Miller. Miller suffers from a genetic disorder that has weakened her one kidney over time.
Mansfield Christian is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
“We’re proud to represent schools that have quality teachers like Wendy Killian,” said Taylor Smith, Jr., senior vice president for ACSI USA. “Her loving care for Nicole Miller literally goes beyond the classroom and is an amazing example of the kinds of teachers at ACSI member schools across the nation. We commend Wendy for her heroic sacrifice.”
The surgery will take place in Cleveland, Ohio.
Linda Hoeflich, the elementary principal at Mansfield Christian School, said news about the surgery has spread as far as Great Britain.
“With all the news media and all that’s happening around this surgery, it has been a wonderful open door to share the love of Jesus,” Hoeflich said. “We just sit in awe of how the Lord has a way of glorifying himself though mere human beings.”
